Gateway Desktop Computers

Below you will find listings for Gateway Desktop Computers. In 1985 Ted Waitt and Mike Hammond formed Gateway outside Sioux City, Iowa on a farm. It was originally known as Gateway 2000.

Gateway became one of the widely famous direct sales PC companies by calling attention to its advertisement declaring “Computers from Iowa”. It became a standard for Gateway to ship computers in spotted boxes with patterned cow markings.

Gateway moved its offices to South Dakota in 1989 and started Gateway Country Store, a line of retail stores. In 1998 Gateway dropped “2000” from its name.

Gateway suffered after the dot-com bust and had to close 188 stores. In 2007 Acer purchased Gateway and in 2008 Gateway ceased all direct sales from its website and phone orders. The only way new Gateway products could be bought was through major retailers and other online websites.
